Enterprise celebrates 11 awards from state newspaper contest

The Holyoke Enterprise earned recognition among the best of the best in the newspaper industry at the 139th annual Colorado Press Association annual convention Friday-Saturday, April 21-22, in Denver.

Publisher Brenda Brandt and managing editor Darci Tomky represented the Enterprise at the convention, including the awards dinner Saturday evening.

The Enterprise garnered 11 awards in the 2016 Colorado Press Association newspaper contest, in addition to Brandt’s recognition as Colorado’s 2016 Newspaper Person of the Year.

The contest named first- and second-place winners in categories falling under three divisions: editorial, advertising and photo/design. The contest period was Nov. 1, 2015-Oct. 31, 2016, and Holyoke competed in Class 2 for weekly newspapers with circulations between 1,001-2,000. Members of the Minnesota Press Association judged the contest.

In the editorial division, Karen Ortner earned first place in Best Headline Writing for a sample of several of her headlines, followed by Tomky with second in the same category.
