Alumni well represented

A total of 111 attended the 114th annual HHS Alumni Banquet, in which classes graduating in years ending in “7” were honored Sunday, May 28, at the Phillips County Event Center.

Leading the numbers of years since graduation was Glen Stenson, who graduated 74 years ago, in the Class of 1943. Boyce Wernet and Irene Bruner Beeler graduated in the Class of 1947, celebrating their 70th year since graduation. The Class of 1957 had the largest representation at the banquet.

Holyoke P.E. teacher Scott Dille was the guest speaker, sharing about the recent $20,000 Safe Routes to School grant received by the school district. It resulted in the purchase of 22 bikes of varying sizes for use in P.E. programs and for students to check out for use.

When prodded, Dille also shared about the boys basketball team’s success as 2A state champions this year.

Mariann Landes, along with her husband, David, and Lyle Worley, provided delightful entertainment as they shared popular music, slogans, advertising jingles and more from the honor years ending in “7.”

Challengers 4-H Club members took their job seriously as they served the meal that was catered by Kristie’s Katering.

Helen Smith Miller served as emcee for the evening program, and Don Sperber gave the invocation.
