FCCLA returns from nationals with gold and silver medals

Thirteen Holyoke Family, Career and Community Leaders of America members competed at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference in Nashville, Tennessee, July 1-7, on three teams. Two of those teams, the chapter service project and chapter review portfolio, returned with gold medals, while the junior parliamentary procedure team earned a silver.

The group was chaperoned by adviser Debbie Colglazier and Linda Jelden.

FCCLA offers over 30 Students Taking Action with Recognition event competitive categories. STAR events are scored on a scale of 0-100. A gold medal requires a score over 90, while silver medals are awarded for scores between 80-89.9. Over 4,200 students competed in STAR events at the national level.

Holyoke members in attendance earning gold included Brook Prottsman, Austin Herman and Tyler Lamm with their chapter service project “Every 15 Minutes,” focusing on drinking and driving prevention; and Tica Penzing and Anna Jelden with the chapter review portfolio.

Earning a silver medal for their test and parliamentary procedure performance were junior parliamentary procedure team members Shianne Willmon, Slaten Burris, Lauren Bergner, Caleb Deaver, Josie Herman, Emily Jelden, Tristen Roll and Alexis Vega.
