Lions Club members deliver Arbor Day trees to 4th-graders

Arbor Day provided an exciting opportunity for Holyoke Elementary fourth-graders Friday, April 28. Science teacher Christina Lucero took advantage of the occasion and taught Arbor Day-themed lessons and did activities with her classes to get them thinking about trees.

Taking current events into consideration, the classes also discussed the trees that were lost in the March wildfire and that planting new trees can help counter the impact of vegetation lost in the fire.

Then, to add a real hands-on aspect, every fourth-grade student received a Meyer spruce tree to take home and plant.

The 55 trees were donated by the Haxtun Conservation District and delivered to students by members of the Holyoke Lions Club, Ray and Betty Bahler and Larry Stein.
