Adult tai chi classes coming to Holyoke
Adult tai chi classes will be offered at the SunSet View multipurpose room from 1:30-2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays starting May 23 and continuing through June 27. This class is designed for participants who will benefit from using a specifically designed slow-moving, fluid and gentle exercise style of tai chi, aimed to improve heart/lung function, muscular strength, flexibility, balance and stress reduction. The movements may be performed seated or standing.
The class format begins with a greeting, followed by tai chi warm-up exercises, movements and cool-down exercises. Handouts with review time will allow participants to continue practicing tai chi on their own or with a friend after the class sessions.
The free class will be taught by Kathy Graham, a certified tai chi instructor. Graham is a retired educator and has been teaching tai chi for three years. She is also a certified Silver Sneakers Yoga instructor at the Heritage Center in Sterling.
Wear comfortable, safe shoes (no high heels or sandals), and take water to drink. For questions and to register, call Tracy Trumper at the Colorado State University Extension office for Phillips County at 970-854-3616, or email tracy.trumper@colostate.edu. A short enrollment and release form will need to be filled out at the first session May 23.
