‘The War of the Worlds’ radio drama set for March 3-5

Phillips County Players are set to reenact Howard E. Koch’s radio drama, “The War of the Worlds,” at 7 p.m. both on Friday, March 3, and Saturday, March 4; followed by 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 5, at Holyoke Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. The church is located at 230 E. Furry Street in Holyoke.

Actors in 1930s garb will be reading the famous alien invasion story based on the novel by H.G. Wells, originally performed in 1938 by a young Orson Welles. As with the radio performers of decades past, local actors will be reading of heat rays, mass panic and military battles from scripts, produced via Playscripts Inc, with music and sound effects provided by Joe Hall. Monserrato Conde III will be directing and playing Orson Welles, and Lauri Gibbs serves as producer.

Actors for the project are Mark Meusborn, Jennifer Hughes, Nicole Brandt, Dr. Jerry Brandt, Andrew Turck, Karen Corrado and Penny Dockins. An elevator is available to help reach the Methodist church basement and tickets will be sold at the door.
