‘Bye Bye Birdie’ on stage this weekend

This weekend, Phillips County Players presents a young performers’ edition of “Bye Bye Birdie” at the Holyoke JR/SR High School auditorium. The stage will be filled with poodle skirts and rock ’n’ roll Friday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Aug. 20, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m.

Tickets will be available at the door.

The musical is directed by Eric Conklin with Pat Wiebers leading music and Karina Davis heading up the choreography.

“Bye Bye Birdie” is presented in arrangement with Concord Theatricals on behalf of Tams-Witmark LLC. The book is by Michael Stewart, the music is by Charles Strouse, and the lyrics are by Lee Adams.

A loving musical send-up of the early 1960s, small-town America, teenagers and rock ’n’ roll, “Bye Bye Birdie” remains as fresh and vibrant as ever. Teen heartthrob Conrad Birdie has been drafted, so he chooses all-American girl Kim McAfee for a very public farewell kiss.
