‘Game on’ is Relay For Life theme Saturday, June 10, in Sterling

Wilmer and Donna Johnson, a couple who was integral to bringing Relay For Life to Logan County over a decade ago, will lead the opening survivor lap as the honorary survivors at the Relay For Life of Northeast Colorado Saturday, June 10.
This year’s Relay underwent some changes after restructuring by the American Cancer Society left supporters in both Logan and Phillips counties looking at ways to keep the fight against cancer local.
ACS reduced the number of Relays around the nation as a way to funnel more funding to cancer research and patient services, but “Relay NECO” organizers felt there was enough support to combine the two county events into one, which will run from 4 p.m. to midnight June 10 at the Logan County Courthouse in downtown Sterling.
The schedule of events for the evening calls for this year’s DJ, Zzone Entertainment, to crank up the tunes starting at 2 p.m. A survivor picture, for all cancer survivors, is planned at 3:45 p.m. on the courthouse steps. Opening ceremonies will kick off at 4 p.m., followed by a parade of teams. A barbecue dinner will be served at 5 p.m. for all Relayers.
One of the fun events of the evening, the human tractor pull, will be held at 6 p.m. in the courthouse parking lot. Teams of five men or women can still pay their fee to enter to test their might.
Zzone will provide the entertainment from 7-9 p.m. when the luminaria ceremony will begin at the gazebo.
The event will wrap up with a closing ceremony at 11:30 p.m., followed by a final lap around the courthouse before the teams break camp.
