‘I’ve had lots of good old days’

Positive attitude, happiness with family, friends help Margie Jeffers reach century mark

Not many people can say they have lived a whole century, but Margie Jeffers will be able to do just that when she celebrates her 100th birthday Aug. 31.

“I’m pretty excited about turning 100,” she said. “It’s a tough act to follow.”

She looks forward to having a gathering of mostly family to celebrate the milestone. While her two great-great-great grandchildren won’t be able to attend, she is excited to see family members who are able to be there.

She said the number one thing she has tried to remember over the years is to keep a positive attitude. “I’ve always been a happy person,” she said. “Despite life’s sorrows, the good has outweighed the bad.” She added that she has always tried only to worry about things that are within her control.

“You’ve got to learn to roll with the punches,” she said.

She pointed out that with her mother having lived to 57 and her father to 62, she never thought in her wildest dreams she’d reach 100 — or even see the year 2000.

While she said she is very limited in what she can do anymore, she feels she does well considering her age. She added that she still feels young at heart and has always taken good care of herself physically.

She also pointed out that happy times spent with family and friends over the years have been very important to her. “I’ve had lots of good old days,” she said.
