‘Southern Fried Funeral’ on new community stage
Fellowship Hall at First United Methodist Church of Holyoke provides a new setting for Phillips County Players next weekend.
Having been unable to be on stage for 16 months due to COVID-19 restrictions, the players are thrilled to be back as they present “Southern Fried Funeral.” The story is by Osborne & Eppler, produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.
Friday and Saturday, May 21 and 22, performances will begin at 7 p.m., while a Sunday, May 23, matinee is set for 2 p.m. Tickets are available at the door.
During the intermission of each performance, cookies will be served, as donated by Heidi’s at The Oak Tree, Brewed Awakening Coffee and Bake Shop, and Holyoke Marketplace.
Directed by Penny Dockins, with Lauri Gibbs serving as producer and sound effects, “Southern Fried Funeral” opens in the studio of the local radio station with the cast gathered round to record “Southern Fried Funeral.”
Dewey Frye is dead, and the rest of his family is left to pick up the pieces — that is if they don’t kill each other first.
