Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department’s sixth annual family fun day and rib cook-off Sunday, Aug. 1, attracted 11 teams and individuals to the smokin’ hot competition.
The judges awarded first place to Chris Connor after tasting his ribs, followed by Brad Stuckey in second and Bar-B-Quist in third.
Eight of the participants also chose to compete in the open category in which they could grill another food of their choice. Sunday’s open winner was Wayne Bahler.
Members of the fire department served a dinner to community members at Homesteaders Park on Sunday evening while kids enjoyed inflatable slides, a bounce house, laser tag and a video game trailer.
