1907 Tourabout on display in Yuma
Currently on display at The Orphanage, 300 S. Main St., Yuma, is a 1907 Maxwell-Briscoe Model ‘RS’ Tourabout on loan from the Forney Museum in Denver. The Tourabout will be on the turntable through July 13. Hours at the gallery are 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday, and 1-4 p.m., Sundays.
As with most of the early automobile manufacturers, associations and partnerships came and went. Companies were formed and dissolved at the speed of light by men who were struggling to make their mark on the fledgling automobile industry. Maxwell-Briscoe was no exception to this formula. It was formed in 1904, and by 1909, the Maxwell-Briscoe Company was the third largest carmaker in the country.
