It’s a milestone he said was long overdue, but Holyoke’s Graeme Smith can now call himself a citizen of the United States.
He was born in New Zealand and lived there for 46 years before moving to Holyoke with his wife, Dolly, 21 years ago. Throughout the past two decades, he’s become a regular part of the local community. “I call Holyoke home,” Smith said.
Early on, Graeme and Dolly ran the Vets Club in town. After doing that for eight years, he began a job as a correctional officer at the Sterling Correctional Facility that lasted 11 years. For four years now, he’s driven a tanker for Scholl Oil and Transportation.
In his free time, Smith enjoys traveling and spending time with their adult children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He especially likes camping at Jumbo Reservoir.
