3 running for mayor, 6 for council seats

Extreme interest has been shown in this year’s city election in which three candidates will be on the Nov. 3 ballot for the mayoral position and six will be vying for three open council seats.

Deadline for submitting nomination petitions to be a candidate was Monday, Aug. 24.

Mayoral candidates include incumbent Orville Tonsing, Jes-c French and Roger Hogan.

Those seeking the three seats on the council are incumbents John Schneider and Kevin Scott, as well as Cathy Edge, Jimmy French, Hannah Goodman and Ashley Sullivan.

City Clerk/Treasurer Kathy Olofson noted that the deadline to file an affidavit of intent to be a write-in candidate is this Friday, Aug. 28, at 5 p.m.

Details on an additional ballot question pertaining to an extension of the city lodging tax will be confirmed at the Sept. 1 council meeting.
