Ag celebrities, local speakers will ‘Celebrate Agriculture’

An upcoming conference offered by Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC) will give people the chance to hear and interact with some top celebrities in agriculture.
In addition, an area businessman and Extension Educator, both from Imperial, and an MPCC business teacher will add some local flavor to the day.
Celebrating Agriculture is scheduled Wednesday, Feb. 28, at the Crossroads Wesleyan Church conference room, 220 W. 17th St. in Imperial from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
“We are looking forward to a fantastic day of spotlighting agriculture,” said Brenda Ledall, Imperial MPCC Campus coordinator.
“This conference will celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit of farmers and ranchers who lead with strength and perseverance through challenging economic times. The day will be highly inspirational with success stories from past and present agricultural endeavors and ideas for applying that information to today’s farm and ranch operations,” she said.
The conference will feature presentations by nationally-known speakers, Marji Guyler-Alaniz and The Peterson Farm Bros.
Guyler-Alaniz is the founder and President of FarmHer, an organization that connects, inspires and empowers women in agriculture.
Guyler-Alaniz of Grimes, Iowa started FarmHer in 2013 after an 11-year stint in corporate agriculture. Her goal then was simply to use photographs and stories to include women in the image of agriculture. It quickly became clear that women in agriculture not only appreciated FarmHer, but also needed it.
They asked for more, and as a result, FarmHer has expanded into events that connect women in agriculture, a series on RFD-TV, a radio show and an online marketplace that offers an array of apparel, accessories and home goods.
The Peterson Farm Bros. are made up of Greg, 26; Nathan, 23; Kendal, 20; and honorary “bro” Laura Peterson, 16. The siblings farm with their parents near Assaria, Kan.
They are best known for producing entertaining and educational videos on their YouTube channel, ThePetersonFarmBros, and for their agriculture-related posts on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.
The Petersons believe there are many misconceptions about modern day farmers and feel it is their calling to educate the public about farming processes and agriculture as a whole.
Their overall goal is to create an awareness of where food comes from and of what a Midwest family farm looks like.
