Brat fry to benefit fire victims
Pastors from Holyoke and Amherst churches are organizing a benefit for victims of the Phillips/Logan County fire. A brat fry is set for Friday, April 21, from 5-8 p.m. at Phillips County Event Center. Freewill donations will go to the fund at the Haxtun Credit Union.

Student art show opens Thursday night
#Selfie is the theme for the Holyoke Elementary School Art Show opening Thursday, April 20, from 6-8 p.m. at Prairie Winds Art Center, located at 443 S. Interocean Ave. in Holyoke. The show will continue through May 12, with the gallery open every Friday from 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.

Close to 330 pieces of art will be represented in the show, one for each of the Holyoke K-6 students, said teacher Christina Martinez. Art mediums included in the student projects are colored pencil, watercolor, oil pastel, sculpture, paint and pen/pencil.

Register for kindergarten next week
Children who will be age 5 by June 1, 2017, are eligible for kindergarten during the 2017-18 school year. Their parents should call Holyoke Elementary, 970-854-3411, to schedule an appointment for Thursday-Friday, April 27-28, between 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Take the child’s immunization records and birth certificate to the appointment.

Emerald Awards program is next Thursday
The community is invited to celebrate the school district’s Emerald Awards at a recognition program at the Peerless Theatre next Thursday, April 27, at 7 p.m. with a reception to follow. Award recipients are Cristine Mallari, Innovator of the Year; Yesenia Bencomo, Leader Among Us; and Scott Dille, Heart Award.
