Shoe project collects 1,700 pairs
First United Methodist Church’s shoe collection campaign is wrapping up this week. As of Monday, April 8, organizer Donna Lutze said they filled 67 bags with 25 pairs of shoes each and just needed a few more to complete 68 bags before Funds2Orgs picks them up in Holyoke Thursday.
The company will pay the church by the pound, and the funds will be used to purchase food for the church’s food bank. Funds2Orgs will sell the shoes at a discount to entrepreneurs overseas.
Lutze said she is blown away by the community’s generosity since December. While this campaign period is over, she said people can continue to take unwanted shoes to the church for collection until the next campaign.
