Help clean up the city next week
A citywide cleanup organized by the City of Holyoke is set for Wednesday-Thursday, May 10-11. All legally disposable items must be placed in the alley and tagged with a white rag prior to 7 a.m. Wednesday for all areas of the city.
Items that will be picked up include metal, concrete, bricks, branches, furniture and wood. Appliances containing freon require certification verifying freon has been removed. Tires and electronics will be collected if they have a city-issued tag noting the fee has been paid.
Bands to perform Monday
Instrumentalists in grades 7-12 will take the stage in the HHS auditorium Monday, May 8, at 7 p.m. for the spring band concert.
Bemis Drug closes Holyoke store
Bemis Drug, located in Olde Holyoke Square at 221 N. Interocean Ave., closed Monday, May 1. Owner Mike Bemis said they have appreciated the business in the past 2 1/2 years that they’ve been open in Holyoke. All prescription records have been transferred to the Julesburg location (Abts Pharmacy). Bemis added that his pharmacies in Nebraska and Wyoming will remain open, as well.
Self-defense classes to teach basic skills
Free self-defense classes for anyone over the age of 13 are set for Tuesdays, May 9 and 16, at 5:30 p.m. at Holyoke Fitness Club. The class will teach self-protecting techniques and martial arts.
