4 candidates for 4 school board seats; no election will take place
As of the Aug. 30 deadline, four candidates filed nomination petitions for four open seats on Holyoke School District Re-1J Board of Education. As a result, there will be no actual candidate election on Nov. 5. All will be sworn in as board members in November.
Those claiming four-year terms on the school board are newcomer Justin Clayton and incumbents Chas Lengfelder, Summer Maloney and Dusty Sprague.
End-of-summer bash is Sunday at First Christian Church
Say goodbye to summer in style! First Christian Church in Holyoke is hosting an end-of-summer bash Sunday, Sept. 8, beginning at 1 p.m. The whole family is invited for a barbecue, games, music and fun.
Hospital foundation to host Cajun boil
Melissa Memorial Hospital Foundation’s all-you-can-eat Cajun boil is set for Saturday, Sept. 14, at Phillips County Event Center. Social hour begins at 6 p.m. with dinner at 7 p.m. The 2020 Legacy Event theme will also be revealed that night. Annual book sale is Saturday
Friends of the Library’s Book Bonanza is Saturday, Sept. 7, from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at Heginbotham Library’s carriage house. A second sale date is set for Friday, Sept. 13, from noon-5 p.m. Proceeds will benefit the library.
