Mike Hardy to speak at Veterans Day program
Veterans Day activities are being planned for Monday, Nov. 11. Veterans and their families are invited to a breakfast from 7:45-9 a.m. at the Holyoke High School commons area. The public is encouraged to attend the program at 9 a.m. at the HHS auditorium.
The featured speaker is Mike Hardy. The 1968 HHS graduate was drafted into the Army and was sent to Vietnam as a rifleman in 1969, followed by some time served in Korea. Hardy and his daughter recently co-authored a book called “117 Days,” which is a memoir of his time in Vietnam.
Monday’s program will also include speeches by Voice of Democracy winners, including junior Haley Van Overbeke, first; freshman Max Kleve, second; junior Michael Pell, third; and junior Erick Marroquin, fourth.
Pheasants Forever to host banquet Saturday
The annual Phillips County Pheasants Forever banquet is Saturday, Nov. 9, at Phillips County Event Center. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are available to purchase at the door. The event includes drawings for guns, a silent auction, games and more.
4-H’ers to collect canned food Sunday
The Challengers 4-H Club will be walking around town Sunday, Nov. 10, in the early afternoon to collect nonperishable food donations. There are also boxes at Holyoke Marketplace and Family Dollar where donations can be placed through Sunday.
League choir concert is Tuesday
Holyoke JR/SR High School choirs will be performing with other area vocalists at the league choir concert Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 6:30 p.m. at Julesburg High School.
