Sign up for fair parade

The “Barn in the USA” Phillips County Fair parade is Saturday, July 25, at 10 a.m. on Interocean Avenue in Holyoke. Parade entries are requested by Friday, July 17, but will be accepted up to the day of the parade.

The parade form that can be found in the fair booklet or elsewhere in this newspaper should be mailed or delivered to the Elliott residence at 701 W. Johnson St., Holyoke, CO 80734. For questions, call 970-854-5294.

Cash prizes will be awarded in the categories of civic group, youth mini, youth maxi, business and miscellaneous. Kids age 6-12 who wear a costume, decorate a bicycle or small battery-powered vehicle, pull a wagon or ride a horse will be awarded 50 cents.

Entries and kids should check in at Holyoke Elementary School on Kellogg Street starting at 7:30 a.m. the day of the parade. To be judged, entries must be checked in and in line by 8:30 a.m. All other entries must be checked in and in line by 9:30 a.m. Candy may be thrown from floats.

 

Seal coat project is next Wednesday-Friday

City of Holyoke crews will be doing their annual seal coat project on streets in town Wednesday-Friday, July 15-17. Residents are asked to not park vehicles or allow sprinkler water to run onto streets that are part of the project from 4 a.m.-6 p.m. on those three days.

The project includes the 200-300 blocks of  East Akron Street, 100-600 blocks of South Campbell Avenue, 700 block of East Emerson Street, 100-400 blocks of West Hargreaves Street, 100-500 blocks of West Jules Street, 100-300 blocks of North Phelan Avenue, 100-600 blocks of South Phelan Avenue, 100-700 blocks of South Sheridan Avenue, 100-400 blocks of West Scheunemann Street, 100 block of North Worley Avenue, 100-700 blocks of South Worley Avenue and 100-700 blocks of West Johnson Street.
