PCFES registration is Monday night
Phillips County Family Education Services registration night will be Monday, Aug. 24, at 6 p.m. at Phillips County Event Center. Attendees will learn more about English as a second language, citizenship preparation, family literacy and after-school programs. ESL classes will begin Tuesday, Aug. 25.
Sign up for Aug. 29 cancer walk to benefit MMH’s 3D mammography fund
Melissa Memorial Hospital is hosting a cancer walk Saturday, Aug. 29, from 7-9 p.m. in its main parking lot at 1001 E. Johnson St. in Holyoke. Luminaria and T-shirts are available for purchase, and while there’s a suggested donation amount to participate in the walk, glow-in-the-dark bracelets and a fun time are free. 2 petitions returned for mayor, council
Two nomination petitions have been returned by candidates for the City of Holyoke election which will be held Nov. 3. Incumbent mayor Orville Tonsing and incumbent council member John Schneider have returned their petitions to become candidates in the election, according to City Clerk/Treasurer Kathy Olofson.
Three council seats and the mayor position are open in this year’s election. Olofson said that five other petitions for council and one other for mayor have been picked up but not returned as of Tuesday morning, Aug. 18. The deadline for returning nomination petitions to be a candidate in the election is Monday, Aug. 24, at 5 p.m. Candidates need to collect 25 valid signatures from registered electors in Holyoke.
