Highway 385 paving project gets funding
Last week, Colorado Department of Transportation announced northeast Colorado will be getting nearly $33 million in federal stimulus funds for much-needed projects.
A large chunk of money — $7.1 million — will fund the repaving of Highway 385 in Phillips County. This project, which is part of CDOT’s Rural Paving Program, will deliver a smoother and safer driving surface, according to the press release.
Also on the list of projects is $300,000 for bridge maintenance on Highway 59 near Haxtun. CDOT crews will add additional steel to increase the structural capacity of the bridge. This method avoids structure replacement, which will extend the safety and usability of the bridge until it can be replaced.
CDOT said the federal stimulus money was intended to infuse local economies with work that is beneficial to the community. There was also a focus on spreading economic recovery projects throughout the region, which led to the approved list of projects.
