Scam targets Black Hills Energy customers
Holyoke Police Department received a complaint Friday afternoon, Aug. 4, of fraudulent activity within Holyoke. A local business received a call from someone stating they were with Black Hills Energy and were attempting to collect on a delinquent bill.
The caller gave a phone number for the person to call and said it was their Black Hills Energy call center and that they would give the business instructions as to how to pay the bill. Upon calling the number, it was answered by a person with a strong accent who answered as Black Hills Energy. The business was instructed to pay the bill with the use of a MoneyGram.
Holyoke Police Department contacted Black Hills Energy and was told that they do not ask for bill payment by MoneyGram. They request that if residents have any questions regarding any phone calls requesting payment, they should call their customer service number at 888-890-5554.
