Author signing event is Saturday

On Saturday, March 5, Luann Koester of Sterling will be at Inklings Bookstore in Holyoke to sign copies of her book, “Gran Kissed the Blarney Stone.” There will also be a reading and activity event for children from 10 a.m.-1 p.m., sponsored by Phillips County 4-H and Phillips County Family Education Services.

 

Public meeting set for fire station project

The public is invited to attend a meeting Tuesday, March 15, at 7 p.m. at the Holyoke City Council chambers, 407 E. Denver St., to provide comments on a proposed project. The city of Holyoke has filed a preapplication with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Rural Development, for financial assistance to purchase bunker gear storage lockers, desks/chairs/computer/printers for an office, tables/chairs/sound system/projector/screen and other equipment to use for training and a large air compressor. This equipment is for the new fire station for Holyoke Volunteer Fire Department at 308 W. Denver St. in Holyoke.

 

Vintage hood ornaments on display in Yuma

An exhibit called “Mascots: Radiator Caps & Hood Ornaments — 1900s-1990s” will be at the Orphanage from March 4-June 5. More than 160 radiator caps and hood ornaments will be on display from the collections of the Orphanage, The Forney Museum of Transportation and the Brian English collection. The exhibit opens with refreshments Friday, March 4, from 5-8 p.m. Hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Sundays, 1-4 p.m. The Orphanage is in downtown Yuma at 300 S.
