Bike safety event is Saturday
Families are invited to a bike safety event Saturday, Aug. 6, from 1-4 p.m. at Melissa Memorial Hospital, 1001 E. Johnson St., Holyoke. The trauma services team will be handing out free kids helmets. There will also be crosswalk safety info, a bike wash, sprinklers, a station to decorate bikes, a bike obstacle course, a raffle and a prize wheel.
Rodeo set for Saturday
There will be steer riding, sheep riding, a steer saddle contest and rodeo heifer soccer at Quintana Rodeo on Saturday, Aug. 6. Register by 5:30 p.m.; rodeo starts at 6 p.m., followed by a dance from 9 p.m.-2 a.m. From Holyoke, go north on Highway 385 to County Road 24, then go west 1/8 mile. More info: 970-520-1584.
FCC launches kids church once a month
First Christian Church, 310 S. Interocean Ave., Holyoke, is starting a new kids church program on the first Sunday of each month, beginning Aug. 7 from 10-11:30 a.m. Drop-off/pickup is at the west door. Kids church includes games, prizes, music, snacks and Bible stories. Everyone is welcome.

Tuesday is Hypertension Day
Tuesday, Aug. 9, is Hypertension Day, and from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Family Practice of Holyoke will have free screenings for heart disease; quick-read glucose, lipids and cholesterol; and blood pressure checks. From 9-10 a.m., Ashley Sells-Shofner, PT, DPT, is offering free mindful meditation and yoga.
