Cornhole tourney is Saturday at Bank of Colorado Pavilion
Holyoke Chamber of Commerce’s fourth cornhole tournament of the summer series is Saturday, Sept. 17, at Bank of Colorado Pavilion at the Phillips County Fairgrounds.
Pre-registration starts at 4 p.m., and bags will fly at 6 p.m. All ages are welcome to attend the family-friendly event as spectators or as competitors. Cheering sections are encouraged. There will be music, concessions and a beer garden.

Hunter Vermeulen in jiu jitsu competition Saturday
Hunter Vermeulen, a Holyoke 16-year-old, is not only competing as a Dragon football player this year but also in the jiu jitsu cage.
He will take on Austin Haverkamp in his second pro show Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Stampede in Aurora as part of a Colorado Jiu Jitsu Club event. Those two are the only teens among a slate of adult competitors Saturday.
The pay-per-view show will be live on the big screen at the Peerless Theatre in Holyoke on Saturday at noon, and concessions will be available.
Hospital board meets; CEO search continues
Members of the East Phillips County Hospital District Board of Directors met for a special meeting Friday, Sept. 9. They held an executive session in regard to the CEO search process.
Two more special meetings for the same purpose were scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 13, at 5 p.m. and Thursday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m.
The regular monthly board meeting will be Tuesday, Sept. 27, at 7 p.m. in the board room at Melissa Memorial Hospital.
