Holyoke FBLA offering tax help until March 8

Holyoke High School’s chapter of Future Business Leaders of America is set to help those making $60,000 annually or less file their taxes for free. Services are scheduled to run 3:30-6 p.m. every Wednesday until March 8, and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every Saturday until March 4. The students’ work is offered through Tax Help Colorado’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, a service of the Mile High United Way nonprofit organization.

Fair Royalty meeting to be held next week

The Phillips County Fair Royalty program is gearing up for this year’s tryouts for the 2024 royalty court. There will be an informational meeting Thursday, March 9, at 7 p.m. in the Ortner Room at Phillips County Event Center for those who wish to learn more about how to become part of the fair royalty court.

Ash Wednesday is Feb. 22

Ash Wednesday, which falls on Feb. 22 this year, marks the first day of Lent, six and a half weeks before Easter. It is a holy day of prayer and fasting in many Western Christian denominations. The observance often includes the wearing of ashes on one’s head as a symbol of the dust from which God made man.
