Around town
Drop off old medications at sheriff’s office
The average American household has 4 pounds of unused, unwanted and out-of-date medications. Colorado is doing something proactive to help solve the problem.
As part of the Take Meds Back Project, the lobby of Phillips County Sheriff’s Office has a box where unwanted or expired household medications can be safely disposed of.
Items that are accepted include over-the-counter medications, prescription medications, liquid medications (sealed in the original container), prescription patches, medicated ointments and vitamins.
The sheriff’s office will not accept needles of any kind, schedule I controlled substances that are not lawfully possessed by the ultimate user, illicit/dangerous substances or health care facility waste.

Fall means it’s time for falling leaves
The City of Holyoke is in the process of preparing for another season of leaf pickup around town. City Superintendent Mark Brown reminds residents that while they can pile leaves along the curb, they should NOT include branches or grass clippings with the leaves.
School gets 4-day weekend
Students in Holyoke School District will get a small break from school with days off Friday, Oct. 13, and Monday, Oct. 16. Teachers will be having an inservice day Monday.
