4 candidates file for City Council
Four candidates have submitted nomination petitions for the three open positions on the Holyoke City Council for the April 3 polling place election. Candidates are incumbents Brian Akey, Gene Bittner and Steve Moore, as well as Lisa Werts.
Snapdragon Floral undergoes changes
Snapdragon Floral, located at 108 S. Interocean Ave. in Holyoke, is undergoing changes. Current owner Christy Kage’s last day in the store was Tuesday, Jan. 30. Kayla Kafka, Kendra Schlachter and Kim Young have agreed to open Snapdragon Floral at the current location Feb. 7-14 for the upcoming Valentine’s Day holiday. The shop will then close at that location Thursday, Feb. 15. The flower shop will be relocated after remodeling the former State Farm Insurance building at 201 E. Denver St. In the meantime, the new shop will handle orders for special holidays but won’t officially open until remodeling is complete.
Kids get break from school Monday
Students in Holyoke will not have school Monday, Feb. 5, due to a teacher inservice.
HHS announces spring play
The Dragon Theatre Company has chosen Gore Vidal’s “The Best Man” for its March 23-24 performance directed by Bret Miles. Rehearsals began Jan. 23. “The Best Man” was first produced on Broadway in 1960 where it won a Tony Award for best play.
Two presidential candidates played by Luke Krogmeier and Tyler Lamm are vying for their party’s nomination. Dominique Penzing and Ashlyn Marcum play their wives, and Brenna Gatton and Tayler Hale are campaign managers. Through a journey of lies and political strategy, “may the best man win.”
