Daylight saving time begins Sunday
Residents are reminded to “spring forward” and set their clocks ahead one hour as daylight saving time officially begins at 2 a.m. Sunday, March 11.
Special section focuses on those age 50+

Hospital election canceled
Three people filed as candidates for the three open seats on the board of directors for East Phillips County Hospital District; therefore the May 8 election has been canceled. Incumbents Angela Powell, Mike “Woody” Woodhead and Steve Young were the only ones to file and have now been declared elected to four-year terms.
Spring break begins Friday
Holyoke School District will get over a week off for spring break, which begins Friday, March 9. School resumes Monday, March 19.
City hosting free spring break activities
While Holyoke students are on spring break March 12-16, the City of Holyoke recreation department is hosting two free events to help keep kids busy. On Tuesday, March 13, at 1 p.m. kids will get in free to see “Peter Rabbit” at the Peerless Theatre. The rec department will also be giving out free smoothies.
On Wednesday, March 14, kids swim free at the Holyoke swimming pool from 1-3 p.m. Those under 6 years old must be accompanied by a parent. The pool will also be open 1-3 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for open swim during spring break.
