Saturday golf tourney to raise funds for active-shooter alert system
The Saturday, Aug. 11, golf tournament is about much more than golf. The event hosted by Holyoke EMS will raise funds for a new active-shooter alert system called Guard911 to be installed at both Melissa Memorial Hospital and Holyoke School District. The smartphone app allows users to report incidents, view nearby alerts and dial 911. Any additional funds raised will go toward EMS uniforms and training.
The tourney begins at 8 a.m. at Holyoke Golf Club, and the day includes lunch, drinks, door prizes and a silent auction. A $13,000 Harley-Davidson motorcycle hole-in-one prize was sponsored by Deaver Guns and Ammo, and the putting contest has a $5,000 cash prize sponsored by Happy Jacks Barbeque.
