Lighting contest judging is next Thursday
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Holyoke, and that means it’s time for the 27th annual holiday lighting/decorating contest, sponsored by City of Holyoke and The Holyoke Enterprise.
To be included in the contest, simply have lights on and/or decorations up at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13. All displays within Holyoke City limits or in a half-mile radius will be judged. (Last year’s winners are ineligible.) To make sure the judges don’t miss something spectacular, call the City at 970-854-2266 or the Enterprise at 970-854-2811 by Wednesday, Dec. 12, at 5 p.m.
Cash prizes include $100 for first, $50 for second and $25 for third. Judging will be based on originality, decorative effect and overall effect.
Choirs, bands to perform next week
Sounds of the season will fill the Holyoke High School auditorium next week during the annual holiday concerts.
Choir members, under the direction of Marcia Dalton, will take the stage Monday, Dec. 10, at 7 p.m. Performances include the high school choir, junior high choir and the select choir called Sound Check.
Aaron Cottam will be directing Holyoke band members in grades 5-12 at their concert Thursday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m.
Library to host Extravaganza Sunday
Heginbotham Library’s annual Extravaganza is set for Sunday, Dec. 9, from 1-3 p.m. It’s an opportunity to buy homemade gifts, tour the decorated library and meet the new librarian.
