Avoid a visit from the Grinch this Christmas

With the holiday season here, Holyoke Police Department would like to remind everyone to take a few precautions to avoid a visit from the Grinch.

While shopping, don’t leave packages or recently purchased items unlocked in a vehicle. Thieves look for opportunities where they can reach into unlocked vehicles and take items such as packages, wallets, purses or cellphones left in plain sight. It’s also a good idea to cover items with a spare coat or a blanket so they can’t be easily seen.

If expecting a package, keep the tracking number so that you know when the package will be delivered. The less time it sits outside your home the less likely it is to be taken. If you are not going to be home when it is expected to be delivered, ask a friend, neighbor or family member to pick it up. You could opt to have the package delivered to your place of employment. A surveillance camera can be helpful, and there are doorbell options that are now available at relatively fair prices.
