Ballots mailed

Fire district measure outlined

Ballots for the 2017 Phillips County general election will be mailed to all active registered electors this week, and those in the Holyoke Fire Protection District will notice a measure to increase taxes.
Should it be passed, Holyoke Fire Protection District taxes will increase by $95,278 in the 2017 fiscal year and annually thereafter in such amounts as are received each year by the imposition of an additional mill levy not to exceed 1.755 mills upon taxable real property within the district.
It would double the mill levy, increasing it from 1.745 mills to not exceed 3.5 mills, beginning with the 2017 tax collection year and continuing thereafter.
A vote of “Yes/For” is a vote in favor of increasing tax dollars going into the fire protection district. A vote of “No/Against” is a vote to keep those taxes at their current rate.
Running for three Holyoke school board positions are Trampas Hutches, Jon Kleve, Patricia Wiebers and Sue Razo. Click here for candidate bios.
Other ballot issues include Haxtun school board candidates, as well as Town of Haxtun sales tax increase and Haxtun School District mill levy override measures.
Ballots must be returned by Tuesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m. They may be dropped off at the Phillips County Clerk’s office Mondays-Fridays from 8 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 4, 8 a.m.-noon; and Tuesday, Nov. 7, from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
