Bench dedicated in memory of Larry Stein as pond marks 30 years

Larry Stein dedicated countless volunteer hours to the Lions Club Fishin’ Hole, and after his death earlier this year, it was appropriate for family, friends and fellow Lions Club members to dedicate a bench in his memory at the place he loved so much.

The group gathered at the pond Saturday, May 29, to see the shiny, bright blue bench placed on the northeast side of the pond.

“He did a lot for the Lions Club, and we’re proud to have this bench in his name,” said Mark Meusborn on behalf of the Lions.

As a true Lion, Stein was always willing to give a helping hand. Even as he got older, he volunteered for whatever service project was taking place. The pond was his passion, and he could frequently be found there checking things over, picking up trash or cleaning restrooms.

In 1991, the Lions Club began construction on the 3.5-acre fishin’ hole, which is located just east of Holyoke on the south side of Highway 6.
