Bookworms rejoice!

A million new titles now available through library

One million books — it’s hard to even visualize. The expansive Long Room at Trinity College Library, a book lover’s dream, holds one-fifth of that, and it seems to go on endlessly. The cost of adding a million physical books to Heginbotham Library and the space that it would require would make such an expansion impossible.
Thankfully, Heginbotham Library recently became a member of AspenCat, a database shared by over 100 public, school, academic and special libraries in Colorado. What does that mean for Holyoke? Residents now have easy access to over a million items through AspenCat. “It’s a way for really small libraries to have a large catalog,” librarian Kathy Bornhoft said.
Most notably, AspenCat means that patrons can use a Heginbotham Library card to check out e-books and digital audio books. It takes a few minutes to get set up, but once it’s done, e-books can be checked out in an instant.
First, download the Cloud Library app on a phone, tablet, e-reader or computer. When prompted to “find your local library,” select AspenCat Union Catalog. Your 14-digit library card number is 2543100000XXXX, with XXXX being the four digits printed on the back of your Heginbotham Library card. The password is your last name in all lowercase letters.
If there’s any problem with getting set up, simply call or visit the library, where staff can help.
