Bornhoft Bergner named Friend of 4-H

After being honored with a 20-year leader award, it’s no surprise that Gloria Bornhoft Bergner was also named this year’s Friend of 4-H.

Daughter Lauren Bergner, president of the Phillips County 4-H Council, presented the award to Gloria at the 4-H achievement program on Sunday, Oct. 4, at the Haxtun Community Center. Members representing the six county 4-H clubs were also honored for their achievements in 2019-20.

Bornhoft Bergner’s nomination letter said she is a very kind and selfless woman who has been instrumental in Phillips County 4-H. She has served in many roles, including a club leader, a project leader and a Cloverbud leader. Bornhoft Bergner has had children in the program for 32 years and has been a volunteer for 20, which is a very rare achievement. She is always willing to lend a hand and is a great example to the youth.

In other special awards presented Oct. 4, Layna Wear was honored with the “I Dare You” award. This leadership award recognizes those who, with a little encouragement, are ready to see themselves as leaders — young adults who are ready to take the dare. Wear received William H. Danforth’s book, “I Dare You,” which is sponsored by Rick and Kathy Haynes.

4-H members, leaders and parents can nominate current 4-H members for this award. According to Wear’s nomination form, she is a natural-born leader. She is always willing to help any younger 4-H member with any project, and despite being soft-spoken, she is very knowledgeable. Wear is one of the quieter members of the livestock judging team and the 4-H Council, but her hard work and dedication to 4-H speaks volumes!
