Brand wall goes up in pavilion

Last Friday, June 28, Phillips County representatives watched as the latest addition to the Bank of Colorado Pavilion was mounted on the building’s north inner wall.
A framed leather brand wall made by Denise Smith, assisted by John Smith and Tony Smith, features the livestock brands of pavilion sponsors.
The wall was approved by commissioners earlier this year at a cost of $65 per 10-inch-by-10-inch section of etched and framed leather.
Brand wall sponsorship is still available. Those interested should contact the county administration office at 970-854-3778.
Maverick Steel was also chosen to install four large AVD low-voltage fans on the ceiling of the pavilion at a total cost of $32,382. A grant from the United States Department of Agriculture will finance $20,000 of the project.

Other business

    In other June business, commissioners:
    — Selected Phillips County Sheriff Thomas Elliott as the county’s designated emergency response authority and instructed him to pursue mutual aid agreements that will go into effect if hazardous materials cause a local disaster.
    — Accepted the resignation of county CDL administrator Matt Meusborn and appointed CDL tester Gerald Whipple to replace him through Dec. 31.
    — Agreed that agenda information must be delivered to the county administrator’s office at or before 8 a.m. two days prior to commissioners meetings.
    — Hired Briar Bergner and R.J. Redding as a Phillip County Communications Center dispatcher and roadworker, respectively.
    — Agreed to transfer custodial care of High Plains Highway funds to Yuma County starting Jan. 1.
    — Approved the Phillips County Fair beer garden, which will also require a special events permit from the City of Holyoke.
