Bretz charged with internet luring of a child

    On July 7, after joint investigation and operation by the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office and the Haxtun Police Department, Michael Scott Bretz, 44, of Sterling was contacted after he agreed to meet an underage 14-year-old female with plans on engaging in a sexual encounter.
    Due to unrelated medical issues, Bretz was transported to the hospital where he will be taken into custody upon his release. Bretz is being held without bond until advised by a judge. He is charged with the following:
    — Enticement of a child (class 4 felony).
    — Internet luring of a child (class 5 felony).
    — Attempted sex assault on a child (class 5 felony).
    — Internet sexual exploitation of a child (class 4 felony).
