Browning is new county court clerk

Kathy Browning is Phillips County Court’s new Court Clerk. Browning is a transplant to Holyoke and has been here since September, 2020. Prior to beginning this role, she worked in Human Services as a case manager. Her official job title is Clerk of Court for both Phillips and Sedgwick counties.

“The clerk of court is basically the administrator and oversees the ins and outs of the court processes,” Browning said. “I’m working clerk of court, so I also do all the things that a deputy clerk or specialist would do.”

This includes filing and answering the phones, as well as administrative duties such as budgeting and approving time off for employees.

“It’s a very fluid position, always something different to do. You just never know what’s going to happen, so you have to be ready to jump in and do something else.”

Browning has been in Colorado since 1990 and considers it her home, though she has lived in many other places including Utah, Idaho, Texas and Tennessee.
