Calling all veterans!

Phillips County veterans are being asked to submit their names for a new Veterans Day recognition this November.

Steve Firme, Phillips County veterans service officer, is collecting the names for a list that will be published in The Holyoke Enterprise. The list will include living veterans who currently reside in Phillips County.

Firme noted that every veteran’s service is honorable but every veteran’s service is different. By only listing names, everyone becomes equal, he said.

Those who submit names are giving Firme permission to publish them. He already has some names on the list, including the local veterans who have received a Quilt of Valor. If veterans do not want their names published, they should contact Firme.

Firme is hoping the Veterans Day recognition can be an annual project, and he knows that it will be a work in progress.

The deadline to submit veterans’ names for this year’s recognition is Monday, Oct. 26. To contact Firme, email sdfirme@hotmail.com, call or text 970-520-1510, or mail a letter to 325 W. Strohm, Haxtun, CO 80731. Those who leave a voicemail are encouraged to spell their names.
