Colorado Department of Transportation will begin a resurfacing and curb ramp upgrade project on Highway 385 and a portion of Highway 6 beginning in early April. Sidewalk closures will exist during curb ramp work, and single-lane closures on Highway 385 will exist during daylight hours, with traffic managed by pilot cars.
CDOT to begin resurfacing and ramp project in early April
Starting in early April, the Colorado Department of Transportation will begin an infrastructure and accessibility upgrade project along Highway 385 north of Holyoke. The main scope of work includes rehabilitating the pavement, widening shoulders and adding safety features along a 10-mile stretch of Highway 385.
Other work includes subbase excavation, milling, base course, asphalt overlay, culvert extensions, signage, striping and installing new ADA-compliant curb ramps along the highways within city limits. The new curb ramps will be sloped for easier access and finished with a slip-resistant surface, and will include other features to meet ADA guidelines.
This state and federally funded project is part of CDOT’s 10-year plan to restore this section of two-lane highway to optimal condition and add much-needed curb ramps at various intersections in downtown Holyoke to improve accessibility for all pedestrians.
The project will begin in early April with the installation of ADA curb ramps at 17 intersections along sections of Highway 385 and Highway 6. This work is expected to last until late June. After July 5, work will be focused on the resurfacing of Highway 385, which is expected to last until late October.
The project is located on Highway 385 from mile point 278.43 to mile point 289, just over a 10-mile stretch of two-lane highway extending north of Holyoke. Work will be performed during daylight hours Monday to Friday, with some weekend work expected.
Sidewalk closures will exist during curb ramp work, with pedestrian detour routes in place. Access to businesses and residences will be maintained.
Alternating single-lane closures will be in place in both directions of Highway 385 during the resurfacing phase. Pilot cars will be present to direct alternating traffic flows during single-lane alignments.
Motorists can expect delays up to 10 minutes during alternating traffic holds, and a width restriction of 12 feet will exist during the resurfacing work. Construction devices, reflective cones and signs will exist to maintain safety.
All construction schedules are weather dependent and subject to change.
