Children’s book ‘EagleHorse’ inspired by author’s granddaughter
Ron Nordyke of Chappell, Nebraska, remembers telling his granddaughter when she was very young that he was going to write a children’s book.
His granddaughter is now in high school, and she became the inspiration for Nordyke’s book, “EagleHorse,” which he wrote and illustrated. Her family is of Lakota Sioux heritage, and EagleHorse is a family name.
“EagleHorse” is the dreamlike journey of a young girl who befriends a horse and an eagle. They act as her guardians and guides during her journey.
Nordyke said he tried to make the book reflect life’s journey, which includes showing the good as well as the struggles.
As a painter with a degree in art, Nordyke is no stranger to the artistic side of things. He did upholstery work for 19 years before teaching art in Chappell for 23. He has been painting regularly for over 20 years.
