Costumed children are cute, scary and just plain fun

Showing nothing but creativity, Halloween costumes ran the full gamut once again as trick-or-treaters showcased their outfits for the day on Oct. 31.

The annual Holyoke Lions Club costume contest attracted scary and cute alike, providing nothing but fun for the audience, as well as the kids.

A jellyfish, crayon box, vending machine, scuba diver, rain cloud, velociraptor, astronaut, porcupine, Costco sample lady, scarecrow, butterfly, porcelain doll, panda, parrot, magician, hippie and cow were only a few of the many characters that walked the judging parade.

They came in couples too — BAM BAM and Pebbles, and ice cream man and ice cream cone. From the movie “Frozen,” Elsa was there in all sizes, and Olaf appeared as well.

Cash prizes were awarded for first-, second- and third-place winners in age divisions from babies to fourth grade, and every participant went home with a bag of treats after a high-five from Leo the Lion.
