Counties ask Polis, ‘follow your own’ principles

Leaders ask governor to allow for local control in pandemic response

County commissioners from 10 eastern Colorado counties have sent a letter to Gov. Jared Polis asking him to adhere to his own philosophy in dealing with the coronavirus pandemic.

The commissioners represent the counties of the Eastern District of Colorado Counties, Inc., an association that helps counties resolve shared problems, including relations with state government.

The letter was sent Wednesday, July 22, with the signatures of Logan County Commissioner Byron Pelton and Phillips County Commissioner Terry Hofmeister, president and vice president respectively of the Eastern District.

In the letter the commissioners criticize Polis’ “once-size-fits-all approach” to managing the state’s response to the pandemic and ask him to follow his own philosophy of trusting local government.
