County approves working from home in extreme circumstances

Phillips County commissioners have accepted a telecommuting policy for Phillips County employees, allowing them to work from home in the event of extraordinary situations.

The policy was put in place due to ongoing concerns about the COVID-19 pandemic and to be prepared should the need to work from home arise. It was reported at the Sept. 30 month-end meeting of the county commissioners.

At their Sept. 18 meeting, commissioners met with Holyoke Mayor Orville Tonsing, Haxtun Mayor Brandon Biesemeier and Haxtun Clerk Karie Wilson to discuss Department of Local Affairs Coronavirus Relief Fund municipality/county grant fund items.

After direction from DOLA, the mayors and commissioners reviewed and approved the grant funds being used for:

— Human Services’ five desktop computer webcams.

— Legal service costs.

— Extra janitorial staff.

— Personal protective equipment.

— Retrofitting current ambulances.

— Election Day voting shields and tables.

— Portable barriers.

Landfill manager Bill Andrews also met with the commissioners last month to discuss the possibility of providing coupons to rural residents for free days at the landfill.

While the commissioners support the idea, they are still in discussion about details as they work to find the best means of implementing the plan.
