County focuses on A Healthier Weigh

Forty-four of the 70 registered participants for the “A Healthier Weigh” program weighed in at the beginning of the challenge, completed the informational lessons, recorded and reported their steps using a pedometer each week and weighed out at the end of the 12 weeks.

Of all the participants that reported steps, the total steps walked were 55,138,970 steps, or 29,701.12 miles. Just to give an idea of how far that is, that would be like walking along the equator all the way around the Earth and then continuing on for a trip from Denver to London.

The total weight lost was 154.4 pounds, or an average of 3.5 pounds for the 44 who weighed out. The total waist circumference inches lost was 82.23, or an average of 2 inches for the 44 participants. The successes of the program were celebrated Tuesday, April 18, at the Phillips County Fairgrounds and Event Center.

First, 19 participants started off the evening with a 5K walk/run around the fairgrounds complex. After the walk/run, participants made their own pizzas with fresh meats, cheeses and veggies.
