County recognized for weather preparedness
Phillips County officials were presented with a sign from the National Weather Service last Wednesday, Aug. 29, to recognize the StormReady designation that they received in June.
The StormReady name recognizes the monitoring, communication and contingency systems that the county has put in place for severe weather events.
Most of the requirements to receive the designation were in place before the county began the application process. Minor changes to procedure included establishing an emergency operations center and setting up additional weather radios.
The Phillips County Office of Emergency Management spearheaded the effort to get the county certified.
“It shows that we’ve taken the proper measures, according to the National Weather Service, to send and receive notifications during a severe weather event,” Phillips County Emergency Manager Bob Heldenbrand said.
