County voter turnout trails state, local averages

Phillips County voters turned out at a lower rate than the rest of Colorado and neighboring counties in the 2018 general election, according to new data from the Colorado Secretary of State.
Logan, Sedgwick and Yuma counties all beat the statewide average — 65.2 percent, calculated by ballots cast over registered voters — by at least five percent. Phillips, meanwhile, lagged behind at 64.6 percent.
2018 marked the fourth time in as many biennial elections that the county has lagged behind its neighbors in voter turnout. It was also the second time in a row that Phillips has failed to beat the state average.
On the bright side, the ratio of registered voters who cast their ballots in Phillips County represented an increase of 2.34 percent since 2014 — the last general election that did not coincide with a presidential race.
